У цій історії ми познайомимося з Айзеком. У Айзека є все – розкішний маєток, особистий кухар, шикарний автомобіль... Але Айзек ніяк не збагне: як так виходить, що його подруга Руті, що живе в маленькій хатинці з однесенькою кімнаткою, готує неймовірну їжу, смачнішу за яку йому не доводилося куштувати. Отже, Айзек вирушає на пошуки загадкового інгредієнту і зрештою знаходить набагато більше.
У давні часи рабини, єврейські мудреці, збиралися й обговорювали різноманітні закони й заповіді з Біблії. Їхні бесіди були записані в книзі, яку ми називаємо Талмуд, що в перекладі з івриту означає «вчення». Розповідь, яку ви зараз почуєте, ґрунтується якраз на історії з Талмуду – про те, як один багатий імператор дивувався смачним запахам, що доносилися з бідних будинків. Розпитавши мешканця одного з цих будинків, скромного місцевого рабина, імператор дізнається, що їжа, приготована на шабат, має якісь «особливі приправи».

In this story we will meet Isaac. Isaac has everything - a luxurious estate, a personal chef, a luxury car... But Isaac cannot understand: how it is that his friend Ruthie, who lives in a small hut with a lonely room, cooks incredible food, the tastier than which he has never had taste. So, Isaac goes in search of the mysterious ingredient and ends up finding much more.
In ancient times, rabbis, the Jewish sages, gathered and discussed various laws and commandments from the Bible. Their conversations were recorded in a book we call the Talmud, which means "teachings" in Hebrew. The story you will hear now is based on a story from the Talmud - about how a rich emperor was surprised by the delicious smells coming from poor houses. After questioning the resident of one of these houses, a modest local rabbi, the emperor learns that the food prepared for Shabbat has some "special seasonings."
